# Verify answers > How MAIA checks every statement of its answer against your sources, when that is worth it and how to read the check results. ## Overview With “Verify answers”, MAIA runs an extra pass and checks each statement of its answer individually against your sources. Answers take longer, but they are critically reviewed and fully referenced. The feature used to be called “High Precision Mode” (HPM). ## What verification adds With verification, an answer differs in four ways: 1. **Active Contradiction Detection:** Identifies and explicitly names conflicts between different document sources 2. **Exact Source Citations:** Supports every statement with precise references to the original documents 3. **Reliability Assessment:** Evaluates and explains the trustworthiness of different information sources 4. **In-Depth Analysis:** Goes beyond pure answer synthesis and critically examines information ## Switch on verification 1. Click the answer settings to the right below the input field, for example “Auto · Standard · Verify off”. 2. Switch on “Verify answers”. Below the input field it then says “Verify on”. ![Answer settings with the “Verify answers” switch](/images/docs/91634a4f66230d9a66b3.jpeg) 3. Select the files MAIA should check against and send your question. The setting applies to the chat until you change it. For effort and model, see [Answer settings](/en/docs/maias-features/answer-settings/). If “Verify answers” isn't in the answer settings, the feature isn't enabled for your workspace. Contact your workspace admin or . ## How to read the check results With verification, numbered circles follow the statements in the answer. Their color shows how MAIA checked the statement: * **Green – “Verified”:** the sources back the statement directly. * **Blue – “Inferred”:** MAIA infers the statement from the sources. * **Black – “Unclassified”:** the statement wasn't checked against a source, for example an assessment or summary by MAIA. Click a number to open a window with the statement, its rating and the sources. Each source is marked as either supporting the statement (“Support”) or as the basis for MAIA's conclusion (“Inference”). Document sources and web sources (globe icon) appear in the same list. For more on web sources, see [Web search](/en/docs/maias-features/web-search/). ![Citation window with rating and sources](/images/docs/db6d076c9d31fecb22a6.jpeg) ## Best practice: first without, then with verification To get the best possible benefit from MAIA, we generally recommend starting requests without verification. There you can specify your requirements and your task together with MAIA. Then submit your target request with the selected documents and MAIA will provide you with a targeted answer. In the next step, switch on “Verify answers” and have your answer checked against your requirements. This way you combine MAIA's speed with the precision of verification. ## Tips for questions with verification ### Optimal question formulation To fully leverage the strengths of verification, consider the following recommendations: ✅ Recommended * **Ask specific, precise questions** ```plaintext Example: "What temperature limits are defined in specification XY-2024 for component Z, and are there deviating specifications in other technical documents?" ``` * **Explicitly ask for source comparisons** ```plaintext Example: "Compare the compliance requirements from documents A and B regarding GDPR Article 32." ``` * **Request critical validation** ```plaintext Example: "Check the consistency of security requirements across all product documentations." ``` ❌ Less suitable * General knowledge questions without direct document reference * Creative or explorative requests * Time-critical questions where speed has priority ## Primary use case scenarios ### Compliance and regulatory requests **Scenario:** Review of GDPR compliance in privacy policies **Example request:** ```plaintext "Analyze our privacy policy version 3.2 and the processing register for compliance with GDPR Art. 30. Identify contradictions or gaps." ``` **Added value of verification:** * Detects inconsistencies between different compliance documents * Provides exact article and paragraph references * Evaluates reliability of different document versions ### Technical specifications with critical details **Scenario:** Validation of mechanical engineering specifications for production release **Example request:** ```plaintext "Compare the tolerance specifications for component M-447 in the construction drawing Rev. 5 with the specifications in the manufacturing manual Chapter 8.3. Are there any deviations?" ``` **Added value of verification:** * Identifies critical deviations in technical parameters * Documents precise source citations for audit purposes * Evaluates currency and priority of different specification documents ### Business-critical decision foundations **Scenario:** Investment decision based on market analyses **Example request:** ```plaintext "Analyze the market forecasts from the Q1-Q3 reports and identify contradictory statements regarding brand development in the DACH region." ``` **Added value of verification:** * Detects contradictions in different analysis documents * Evaluates reliability based on data sources and methodology * Provides well-founded basis for critical decisions ### Creation of official documentation **Scenario:** Compilation of release notes from multiple development documents **Example request:** ```plaintext "Extract all feature descriptions for Release 2.5 from the sprint documentations and check for consistency with the Product Requirements Document." ``` **Added value of verification:** * Validates information across multiple sources * Identifies inconsistencies before publication * Provides traceable source citations for every statement ## Comparison: without and with verification | **Aspect** | **Without verification** | **With “Verify answers”** | | --------------------------- | ------------------------ | ------------------------------------ | | **Speed** | Fast | Slower | | **Processing Philosophy** | Information synthesis | Critical review | | **Source Citations** | General | Exact and precise | | **Contradiction Detection** | Not active | Active and explicit | | **Reliability Assessment** | Not included | Comprehensive | | **Use Case** | General requests | Critical, business-relevant requests | ## When is verification worth it? ✅ Switch on verification for: * Compliance reviews and regulatory requests * Technical specifications with safety-critical details * Preparation of business-critical decisions * Creation of official, publication-required documentations * Quality assurance and audit preparation * Validation of information from multiple sources ⚡ Work without verification for: * Quick information queries * Explorative research * Brainstorming and creative tasks * General knowledge questions * Time-critical requests ## Practical tips for maximum precision ### Optimize document selection Ensure that all relevant documents are uploaded to MAIA and available for the request. ### Provide context Include relevant context in your request: ```plaintext "In the context of ISO 9001:2015 certification: Check..." ``` ### Reference specific document versions ```plaintext "Compare version 2.3 with version 3.1 of the manual..." ``` ### Explicitly ask for contradictions ```plaintext "Identify all contradictions between..." ``` ### Define validation scope ```plaintext "Check exclusively chapters 5-7 for consistency with..." ``` ## Frequently asked questions ### Where did High Precision Mode go? Since release 1.25 it's called “Verify answers” and sits in the answer settings instead of the “+” menu. The check itself works as before. ### How do i know verification is on? The answer settings below the input field read “Verify on”. ### Can i switch verification during a conversation? Yes. You can switch it on or off for each message. ### Is there an allowance for verification? Yes. Verification has a usage allowance per person that depends on your licence and resets regularly. Once it is used up, you can switch “Verify answers” on again after the reset. If higher capacity is needed, contact your contact person or the sales team. ### Which file types are supported? Verification works with all file types supported by MAIA: PDF, DOCX, PPTX, TXT, CSV and XLSX as well as images in JPG, JPEG, PNG and WebP format. ## Conclusion “Verify answers” is your tool for business-critical requests where accuracy, traceability, and source validation are crucial. Through the combination of active contradiction detection, exact source citations, reliability assessment, and in-depth analysis, verification provides the foundation for well-informed decisions and quality-assured documentation. Switch on “Verify answers” when precision is more important than speed.
